The team of Amahoro Tours welcomes you to the 'Land of a Thousand Hills'. We invite you to discover Africa's best kept secret - an exciting natural and cultural experience of a still widely unspoilt part of the continent.

We are the established leader in community-based tourism and ecotourism in Rwanda. Our tailor-made tours guarantee a maximum of interaction with the local population and intimate experiences with Rwanda's beautiful nature. We cooperate with an extensive network of community organisations, international NGOs and likeminded private companies.

Our primary goal is to promote a high-quality visitor experience in an environment which benefits an increasing number of local people directly, as our partners, yet without compromising the very assets upon which the destination depends; namely, a spectacularly beautiful natural environment amid a largely unspoilt cultural environment.

DID YOU KNOW? Rwanda is separated from the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Lake Kivu and the Rusizi River valley to the west; it is bounded on the north by Uganda, to the east by Tanzania, and to the south by Burundi. The capital, Kigali, is located in the centre of the country.

Dear Greg, Thank you so much for all your help with planning an amazing trip for myself and my friend. We truly felt immersed in the culture of your country, and we were awed by the vast array of natural resources that fill Rwanda. Akagera was so beautiful, and the variety of wildlife there was stunning. No words would ever be adequate to explain how humbled we were by the privilege of spending time with the mountain gorillas in their habitat. We greatly appreciated your attention to detail in making us feel welcome and comfortable during our stay. Each of the people that we met during our travels through the villages, marketplaces and at the children’s center had such a wonderful spirit. Spending time with them, really made the trip special. You and your guide Isaac are wonderful ambassadors for you country. I hope we can come again soon, Keisha Adkins, DVM
I traveled for two weeks through Rwanda, The Congo, and Uganda with Amahoro tours, in October, 2008. I especially wanted to see the Silverback Gorillas and other wildlife. I had what was easily the experience of a lifetime. I feel that I really got to see Rwanda, and meet people. Greg is an extremely likeable and trustworthy person. He knows his territory and is easy to approach with any concerns that come up. My trip was a well-orchestrated tour. Also, the men that Greg hires are competent, knowledgeable, and accessible. I fully recommend his company to anyone considering travel in Rwanda, the Congo, and Uganda. Sincerely, Larry Rosenberg, MD
As a cinematographer for the Mountain Gorilla Veterinary Project in Rwanda and Congo, Greg and his team make the journey through this amazing area of Africa, safe, enjoyable, and memorable. The food is great, and lodging is comfortable, and the team of Amahoro Tours is knowledgeable, and friendly. I would consider them to be the top tour company in this area of Africa. Roy Heisler

Background

photo AIDP was created in 2007 with its headquarters in Musanze District in the northern province. This area was badly affected by the 1994 genocide and the 1996-1998 war against infiltrators both of which created insecurity and adversity though socio-economic disturbances.

About Us

AIDP is a registered charitable organization, working in the northern part of Rwanda. We are committed to protecting the rights of the most vulnerable and marginalized children, by giving them the chance to grow up and live with families with a safe and secure future.

The children we work with

We work with children who are, or are at risk of being, separated from their families: Children living in our interim care centre, and those at risk of being placed in a care centre. Children living with foster families. Children living and working on the streets, including those who are in, or likely to come into, conflict with the law. Child workers, particularly those who are exploited in domestic labour. Trafficked children, including commercially and sexually exploited children. How we help We give children a chance to grow up in loving families and communities. We protect children from abuse, discrimination and exploitation. We empower children, their families and communities, to create opportunities for a better life. We innovate to bring about lasting, positive change in partnership with communities and the government.
